real British hardwood is very durable and mellows beautifully with age. Whatever you choose – a clock, a lamp, a wooden vase or the Table Skittles they will all last a lifetime – all set to become a family heirloom.
all wooden surfaces are hand finished with three coats of a special organic oil to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. The oil
soaks into the wood and special driers ensure that it dries to a durable, scratch resistant finish. This is particularly useful with the skittle sets as a finish like varnish, which lies mainly on the surface, would become scratched and marked with use.
to make the clocks, lamps and vases, I use a construction technique called coopering, which is used to make wooden barrels. This allows me to use a minimum amount of wood, using small flat pieces to make relatively large hollow items like vases and lamps. Contrasting inlays accentuate the geometrical shapes and, in the case of the wall clocks, act as hour markers.
