Inspired by the later, more elegant, period of the Art Deco style, each vase is a distinctive octagonal shape.

Coopering, a technique used in barrel making, is used to make the vases. Small, flat sections of wood called staves are accurately cut and assembled to create the octagonal shape. Very little wood is wasted.

Inlays of contrasting wood between the staves accentuate the octagonal shape of the vases.

The largest vase has sufficient height and weight to accomodate a very tall arrangement of flowers or grasses.

The small vases are available with or without decorative grooves. The grooves further accentuate the geometric shape.

A modern high-strength woodworking adhesive is used to assemble the vases. The makers say this is stronger than the wood itself.

Finished with special organic oils to enhance the natural beauty of the wood. Unlike some other finishes it can't be chipped. The oil soaks into the wood, sealing it against dust and moisture. Special driers in the oil ensure that the finish dries completely.

The wooden vases are intended for silk or dried flowers and grasses. They aren't intended to be used to hold water over long periods as wood is not completely waterproof. You could, if you wish, stand a plain ceramic, plastic or metal container inside the vase to hold water for fresh flowers.
